Chateau Gruaud Larose Grand Cru - St Julien
Food Paring
Blue Foot or French Bresse Chicken with Saint Georges Mushrooms, Chateaubriand
Tasting Tips
Deep ruby. Fresh aromas of blackberry, kirsch, cedar and leather. Intensely flavored and powerful, with very fresh, precise flavors of dark berries, cigar box, violet, licorice, espresso and bitter chocolate. Offers an enticing combination of ripeness and acidity, of power and elegance. Juicy, primary, penetrating wine, not as pliant as some. Finishes with sweet, nicely enrobed tannins.
Winery
The exact origins of Chateau Gruaud-Larose are unknown, as direct references to the estate and its owners do not appear until the early 18th century. The knight Joseph Stanislas Gruaud is generally credited with the first steps towards the creation of the estate we know today as Gruaud-Larose. The Gruaud-Larose estate amounts to 150 hectares of the St Julien appellation; the bulk of the estate lies around Baron Sarget''s chateau, separated from the Gironde by the small village of Beychevelle, and sandwiched between the vineyards of Branaire-Ducru and Lagrange.
