LA ZONA Rosato Mezzanotte, a rose' blending Sangiovese, Barbera. Vibrant cherry red with light orange hues. Lively, lifted berry fruit and jam with hints of rose petal, violets and confectionary berry fruit, with lingering cranberry and strawberry characters; this full-flavoured wine offers a powerful mid-palate with crisp acidity and a persistent finish.

Why mezzanotte, Italian for midnight? Rosato, rose', wines are made from red grapes with minimal & controlled contact with the skins. Traditionally, Old World winemakers would wake at dawn to begin picking at 8AM. By noon, the grapes had been crushed and the juice allowed to macerate, or to sit on the skins. Usually the juice for rosato would be drained off after 12 hours, or at midnight. Thus, rosato came to be referred to as vino della notte, wine of the night or midnight wine.
