Tasting Tips
There’s a step up in structure and complexity in this vintage, quite similar to 2002. This wine is more New World in style as opposed to the Old World characteristics of the Valley Farm 2005. Flavours veer more towards darker fruits, plum and black cherry with ingrained savoury and spiciness. Usage of a higher percentage of new oak than in previous vintages will create balance to ensure ageabilty although it drinks well now. 95/100 James Halliday
Winery
Ariki Hill is running a unique wine business, the name labyrinth being well chosen. While it is a Pinot Noir-only specialist, one is produced in the southern hemisphere (from the Yarra Valley) and one from the northern hemisphere (Santa Barbara, California) each year. Moreover, the wines come from individual vineyards, the Bien Nacido Vineyard having the deserved reputation as one of the best sources of pinot noir in California. - James Halliday; Australian Wine Companion 2005
