Tasting Tips
Our Grampians blend this year is a strong follow up to our 2008, and a vintage that at first looked vvery similar, then grew apart to be more earthy, more tannic and more 'Aussie' than I first thought. A blend of Rice's Vineyard (36%), Westgate Vineyard's younger vines (32%) Garden Gully Vineyard (24%) and a smidge from outside the region, the cooler Henty Estate Vineyard (8%). It's a ripe grampians, with some wholebunch stalk influence evident in its youth, fine tannins and cleansing acidity to finish. All natural yeasts again and bottled unfiltered. I think it will be great after 12 months, and then over 3 years.

Winery
Another Warm Year, with harvest dates almost identical to 2008. A little more rain was welcome in spring and summer, but vines were essentially struggling throughout the growing season and yields were consequently very low across all vineyards. Production this year saw slightly higher whole bunch inclusion across Garden Gully and Rice’s Vineyards. All ferments used indigenous yeasts and bacteria. We also increased the number of open, wooden ferments, supplementing our one and two-tonne polyethylene ones. All wine was raised for 12 months in French oak barriques and some hogsheads, 9% new. An intense Grampians, very elemental and requiring some time to relax. The final blend comprises Rice’s Vineyard 36%, Westgate Vineyard 32%, Garden Gully 24%, and Henty Estate 8%. Bottled with very light egg white fining and no filtration Average vine age approx 29yrs. 13.5% alc. pH 3.47 Total acidity 6.5g/l 580 dozen produced.
