The wine shows an attractive lemony yellow-green colour with a complex nose of citrus, vanilla, butterscotch, tropical fruit and mineral tones. On the palate the taste is long and full with no excessive wooding. Complex, powerful yet still elegant.

Vergelegen, meaning situated ''far away'' was granted to the Governor of the Cape in 1700. The grapes for this wine were sourced from Vergelegen’s premium vineyards located on South/South West facing slopes. The soils are Helderberg granite or Clovelly. Rootstock used is R 110 – which is very suitable for dry-land conditions. As a result of cool conditions and wind, yields were extremely low at 4.5 tons/ha.
